About Us
The Martha's Vineyard Group started mid 2006 with Graduado Hulk from the Capoeira group Arte e Cultura. It started as a group of friends who shared the love for the art and under Hulk's teachings started to practice the art of Capoeira.
The group grew and was later joined by Segundo Monitor Gunga from group Raizes do Brasil. Instructor Hulk and Estagiario Gunga continued to teach in the Common House in West Tisbury with the help of Estagiario Patrick who was vital to the existence of the group.
We were introduced to the Associacao de Capoeira Mandingueiros dos Palmares of Mestre Chuvisco and were honored to join their association on the spring of 2008.
No longer with instructor Hulk, the Mandingueiros dos Palmares of Martha's Vineyard changed from just a group of friends who loved Capoeira to a serious group dedicated to introducing the art of Capoeira to Martha's Vineyard and spreading it's roots.
